Getting your feet in perfect condition is a must for your wedding day because what ever nail color you choose, if your feet are dry and dare I say it, crusty, the nail color will not be able to mask that. Especially if you choose to wear open toed shoes or sandals.
A good time to start taking care of your feet if you aren’t doing that already is AT LEAST 3 months before the wedding. It doesn’t take too much effort, and goes a long way!
This can be done bi-weekly, but if you don’t have much time to dedicate to the treatment, then it should be done at least once a month! Make it fun, make it a party with some friends.
It is a good idea 1 month and 2 weeks prior to the wedding, to go to a professional at a spa who will really pamper and give your feet the treatment it deserves. Definitely on your wedding day, have a professional do your nails.
STEPS FOR A HOME TREATMENT
SOAK & SOFTEN
Get a bowl or foot spa, and add the directed amount of nourishing and moisturizing skin cleanser to some warm water! Soak your feet in the warm water for about 15 minutes so that the cleanser can soften the skin while cleansing it. For really tired feet, you can use a foot soak that contains Epsom salts which is good for easing away tension. In the picture above the lemons apart from giving a great aroma, contain exfoliating acids that also help to get rid of dead skin cells.
EXFOLIATE + TREAT + CONDITION
Then exfoliate the bottom of your feet and heels gently with a foot brush, foot scraper or pumice stone to get rid of the excess dead skin cells which start to help brighten your feet, getting rid of the ‘ashy’ look. Cut or trim your nails if needed and file with a nail file. Massage some nail and cuticle oil into the nails as well.
After this, use a sugar scrub from your knees to your feet (salt scrub is okay as long as you haven’t just shaved your legs) which exfoliates but at the same time contains moisturizing butters and oils which help to keep the skin soft and moisturized while nourishing and maintaining the elasticity of the skin. Rinse off the scrub and dry your legs and feet with a towel. You can apply a conditioning and detoxifying mask at this stage and leave on for 5 minutes and rinse off. This is optional.
MASSAGE + MOISTURIZE
At this stage massage your legs and feet with a lotion to nourish and moisturize your skin some more. Now you can apply some nail varnish if you want to.
Don’t you just love great looking feet?
