Milk is well known to be a good source of vitamins and minerals especially calcium, potassium, magnesium, Vitamins A, B, D, proteins and much more. These are needed for good health, hence the reason it’s recommended for children and pretty much every one who wants strong bones, good teeth , health and vitality. Plus it tastes good too (I like it chocolatey).
Milk has also been used for thousands of years in skin care because as well as providing these nutrients to the skin, it moisturizes and soothes it. It contains lactic acid which helps to get rid of dead skin cells revealing younger and healthier looking skin. (Remember the legend of Cleopatra and her daily baths in milk and honey, even Whoopi has dabbled a little bit). It is now commonly used to make creams, bath bombs, soaps, bath soaks, face masks and much more, in combination with honey, oats, nutritious herbs e.t.c. The different types of milk (whole milk, buttermilk, yogurt, coconut e.t.c) make the possibilities endless.
Here’s a simple recipe that you could try to soothe and soften the skin:
1/4 cup dry milk powder
1/4 cup epsom salt
1 teaspoon honey
a few drops of lavender or orange oil
Mix together in a bowl and add to warm running bath water.
