Face masks work in a variety of ways to keep your skin healthy and supple. They contain clay, which absorbs dirt and toxins from the skin, it also cleans and exfoliates the skin while improving blood circulation. This means there is an increased amount of oxygen supply which is needed for healthy skin. Exfoliating also helps to remove the layer of dead cells which gives the appearance of dull skin to reveal healthy glowing skin. Clay is also full of minerals which are good for healthy skin.
There are many different types of face masks out there, those that are wet and ready to use, or those that are dry and need to be mixed with a suitable mixer like water, milk, cream and many others, depending on the needs of your skin. There are also different types of clay available to suit different skin types including dry, oily, sensitive or normal skin. Apart from clay, face masks may also contain other ingredients such as fruit fibers like strawberry, pumpkin, mango, or sea nutrients like seaweed, or even chocolate or coffee powders. The list is endless, but the aim of all these ingredients are to nourish the skin with nutrients and minerals that make it healthy, and thus exude radiant and glowing skin. These masks are used typically once or twice a week, and are very easy to use. Once the appropriate type of mask has been chosen (and mixed with the appropriate mixer if needed) use either a fan brush or clean hands to message onto clean skin, taking care to avoid the sensitive area of the eyes and lips. Let dry for about 10 minutes while the work is being done. Then remove with warm water to reveal skin that looks and feels renewed, and don’t forget to tone and then moisturize.
Remember, using a face mask is only part of the picture, you have to have a healthy diet, keep well hydrated and keep your face clean and well moisturized. I will be covering each of these and more, in future posts.
